From the Bedside of Anurag Kashyap |
It is a beautiful Sunday morning…and from my bedside I can see the jagged coastline jutting into the sea…and I don't feel like getting up.
And these Baiscope Entertainment brats are on my ass…pulling at my covers...trying to get me up. So I decide to use my bedside to say what I have 2 say…, unprotected, uncensored
I love Cinema – new and old.
Its why I try and associate myself with a film lovers' platform. Baiscope is one of them. And probably the only one other than moc-ha in India .The untimely death of moc-ha was a hard blow. The birth of Baiscope was a new joy to the Old Boy!
Baiscope Entertainment has been sustaining itself for the past 1 year. They also gifted me my first 16mm projector along with a cheekat trailer.
This bribe, along with their passion, is what gets me manipulated all the time into doing stuff that I would normally do but avoid because I prefer my bed to my bedside.
These little kids and their passions can be so annoying …. like my 6 yr old who forced me to shave off my much treasured beard and moustache. Without them I again look like I should not be taken seriously.
However, Being Serious ( my apologies Homi ! ), what I really like about them is that here is a platform where filmmakers can meet, network, and also be able to learn, unlearn and put together a film …from finance to production ; from disappointment to satisfied curiosity.
When I began as a filmmaker I had no clue about nothing. In my experience 2 of the most difficult stages of filmmaking is finding finance and distribution. And no film school will teach you anything about them.
At Baiscope you get to meet the relevant people who show you the way. And hopefully might even turn out to be the facilitator of your dreams.
My wet dream is to be a part of a forum of filmmakers ( like in the 50s in France and the late 60s and early 70s in the US, late 80s in Iran or the late 90s in Korea) where all come together, and evolve a cinema that can re-define Indian Cinema .
Any such change begins with the exposure to possibility.
Any such platform which successfully sustains itself needs to be celebrated. |
